FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Child Protective Services in Fort Worth, Texas, Tuesday investigated why a 3-year-old girl went unclaimed for days after being left in a restaurant.
The child was spotted Saturday afternoon by staff at a Chuck E. Cheese franchise who realized the girl wasn't with any adults, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
The girl was only able to tell police her name was Mimi, and she was placed in foster care.
After no one reported a missing child by Monday, police issued a public appeal. Police spokesman Lt. Dan Draper said a call came in during the afternoon from a man claiming to be the girl's father.
"The preliminary information I have is that his sister took the girl to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese and when it was time to leave, she thought the other sister had taken the girl with her," Draper said in a news release.
The child will remain in foster care during the investigation, child services officials said.
