Boyfriend Told Detectives Nail Asked Him Several Times To Help Kill Husband

FRISCO, Texas -- Police said Thursday they have arrested the estranged wife of a man slain last month in connection with his death.

Police said they have accused Elizabeth Guthrie-Nail of trying to have her husband killed. Authorities have charged nail with criminal solicitation of murder. The person who actually killed Craig Nail is still being sought, authorities said.

Investigators said from the beginning, Craig Nail was targeted for murder and that the crime was personal. Police said the couple had a rocky relationship. In 2004, Elizabeth Nail was arrested on suspicion of family violence involving her husband. Investigators said it was Nail's boyfriend who gave them information that led to her arrest.

In one affidavit, authorities said Nail's boyfriend told detectives Nail asked him several times to help kill her husband. Police said Nail's boyfriend dismissed it as her "just talking crazy." Nail's boyfriend said she intended to "lure Craig Nail to the house with a promise of sex" and told the boyfriend to "come into the house through the garage and kill Craig."

In the affidavit, Nail's boyfriend said he told her she shouldn't talk about such things like murdering her husband and was told by Nail, "she would rather go to prison than let Craig have her daughter." According to the affidavit, Nail's boyfriend wasn't the only man she allegedly tried to get to kill her husband.

When Nail and his girlfriend were shot, police said the gunman entered through the garage.

A neighbor, Carlton Clark, said the Nail's 6-year-old daughter was the source of a bitter custody battle. The Nail's daughter was in foster care.
