KATY, Texas – A 3-year-old girl drowned Friday in her next-door neighbor’s pool, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said.

Maisie Waugh was found in the pool in the 6300 block of Canyon Chase Drive around 5 p.m.

Investigators said Maisie’s 20-year-old sister was babysitting her three younger siblings when Maisie and her brother made their way into the neighbor’s yard through a hole in the fence.

The neighbors told investigators they heard a child in the back yard and found the boy with wet pant legs.

While one of the neighbors returned the boy to his home, his wife saw Maisie at the bottom of the pool.

Her husband got the girl out of the water and began administering CPR.

Maisie was airlifted to Memorial Hermann, where she was pronounced dead.

CPS was notified, and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences conducted an autopsy – both standard procedures in all child death investigations.
