Vernon, Texas - A five-year-old child is dead Thursday and her mother is now charged with capital murder.

Former Amarillo resident Kristina Earnest is held in the Wilbarger County jail with a $250,000 bond for Kati Earnest's death.

Amarillo Child Protective Services spokesman Greg Cunningham says the 22-year-old has two other children, a boy and a girl.

He says she was investigated in 2006 in Amarillo for physical neglect relating to Kati's hygiene and in 2008 for neglectful supervision of her son.

Both cases were dropped after CPS workers and doctors examined the children.
