Authorities have arrested a 16-year-old mother and charged her with injury to a child by omission. The teen's mother was by her side in court as a judge ordered her detained.

The teen mother's 18-year-old boyfried, Ramiro De La Rosa, is in the Bexar County Jail charged with injury to a child. An arrest warrant says he slapped and choked Baby Jada De La Rosa around Sept. 20.

Three days later, the baby stopped breathing. Police say the couple wrote a note and dropped the baby off at a west-side fire station.

De La Rosa was on probation for a drug charge. Last year, he was removed from his home and on probation for a drug charge.

He was at an east Texas facility and transferred to a shelter in San Antonio during Hurricane Ike, where he continued his treatment.

Last fall, he took off from the facility, and although a warrant was issued for his arrest, it was never entered into the criminal justice database.

Authorities had arrested De La Rosa twice since he left the drug rehab facility, but officers had no way of knowing he was wanted.

The teen couple also have a 1-year-old son who is now in CPS custody.

Another detention hearing for the 16-year-old mother is set for Oct. 9.
