Hearing planned on wandering Arlington toddler's custody |
2-year-old girl found Monday night walking in the middle of an Arlington street will remain in foster care for at least two more weeks, a judge ruled Tuesday afternoon.
Despite repeated pleas from Ty'tianna Weatherspoon's parents, LaQuianta Weatherspoon and Maurice Stewart, and a grandfather to return the child, Judge Jean Boyd decided to leave the toddler and the family's other two children -- a 10-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl -- in foster care.
A fourth child, a 13-year-old girl, will be allowed to live with a family member.
Boyd made the ruling after receiving information that Weatherspoon had been investigated by Child Protective Services in Lubbock and Dallas County.
A witness said that Ty'tianna was found about 7:30 p.m. Monday walking in the middle of Browning Drive in east Arlington. The neighborhood is southeast of the University of Texas at Arlington.
"She was able to tell officers she is 2 years old but could not provide any further information about her name, address or parents," said Lt. Blake Miller, police spokesman, in a news release.
CPS officials cared for the child overnight while police went door-to-door in the neighborhood, trying to find her family.
Police were contacted by the parents about 5:45 a.m., Miller said.
