McKINNEY, Texas - McKinney police have announced some findings in its internal investigation into how the department handled complaints against a chiropractor accused of molesting teenage girls.
Earlier this month department apologized. It acknowledged that several people and Child Protective Services brought forward child sex assault claims against Dr. David Russell and the department did not act on those claims.
Russell was finally arrested in October after more claims were made. He is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The department said it reviewed all of its CPS referrals for the year and found no additional irregularities in their response.
It said it will look at how it takes in information, including how it handles reports from people who walk in to the front lobby. That is where the first claims against Russell were made.
Also, it will look at centralizing some of the referrals from CPS and additional training for officers taking reports.
The department said there could be policy changes, but would not be specific.
“We’re going to continue the investigation to validate those facts and then make the proper changes.
It’s too early. It’s very preliminary to give you specific set of circumstances that you’re asking about,” said Dep. Chief Scott Brewer.
